Every Day in the Garden: January 1 to 10

This series is just to coax me into the garden every day, or to at least send RH out there with the camera. Baby steps.

No words, no explanation, and please, don't feel as if you have to comment. It's just an experiment for me so I won't cocoon too long inside. Thank you.

  1. I hope I see lots of photos of your garden as it blooms. I miss mine. I haven't yet done much to the yard here in the mountains. I miss beautiful gardens. I enjoyed the photos - I'm trying to figure out what that bottom photo is . it's a mystery to me.

  2. It's a Mason bee house, Sandy. And although we have clouds of mason bees all over the flowers in the garlic bed in late summer, we never see any using the house. Maybe it's not located properly?

  3. Sometimes just being outside in the yard and gardens taking photos brings enough pleasure to your day, doesn't it? Thank you for sharing these photos with us. No going outside and taking photos for me today: January is finally showing its true winter self! Howling winds, slate gray skies, everything coated in ice, and now the snow is coming.

    1. Melanie, I know you would gladly exchange our warm rainy weekend for your own. As long as everyone was safe, I would love yours. But you know that!

Today I almost forgot about my pic for the day but remembered it at dusk and just took my phone out in the garden while BreeBree and James Mason went out to potty after their dinner. I went around snapping shots and even that 15 minutes outside in the damp air in fading light made me so happy.

Glad Brian is home safe (via FB) and you two be safe!

  4. I find I tend to stay indoors more than I should and when I go outside I think, why am I not out here enjoying this cooler weather? It's nice to see glimpses from your garden. Have a lovely Sunday ~ FlowerLady

    1. You're right, Lorraine! July with its scorching heat will be here before we know it so now is a good time to be outside. Winter has its own allure.

  5. A very, very good idea! I have too many days when I don't even step outside.

    1. Yesterday it had rained all night and was still drizzly so I went out on the front porch and took pictures with the telephoto lens of two houses being built on the high hill across the road from us. One looks nearly finished and I didn't even know it was there until the leaves fell off the trees in late November. And once spring comes they will disappear from view again so I'll do all my snooping this winter!

  6. Do I sense some Parisienne Farmgirl, winter garden inspiration, with these wonderful images, which can easily be complied into a dazzling calendar or photo journal?!

I love the motivation behind these pics: to get you outside, even for a few seconds, enough time to record what you saw, and later, for cozy, 'me' moments, looking at your snaps, remembering how you felt, what you heard.

Simply breathing in all that fresh, winter air must revitalize you! One thing is certain: your garden is frequented by many beautiful birds, and listening to their melodies is good company.

All your photos are lovely, Dewena, but I can't stop staring at January 8th's; I can almost feel the cool breeze swinging the branches in slow motion, the crispy, copper coloured leaves fluttering ever so gently, hanging on by a thread, when the next gust snaps their stems, and they float to their fate.

Looking forward to the next bunch! Until then, lose yourself in those swirly, strawberry cream skies!

    Happy weekend!
    Poppy xx
