I was looking through my blog roll on the side of my blog and another blog I follow had the title, "Goodbye January". I think we're all on the same wavelength. ;-)
Somewhere I have a quote about no one ever being sorry to tell January goodbye, Melanie. I'm old enough now to treasure each month but it has been a month of mixed emotions for me so I'll welcome February.
I'm glad to share her name, Briana. She is Karen Adams and a decade ago my daughter bought the easel and first year's calendar for me and every Christmas she buys one for both of us and when we turn to the next month we feel that we're doing it together even though we live a way from each other.
My daughter is so disciplined! She never looks through all the cards, only when the new month begins. I fail miserably at that and look through all of them when I open her gift. But then I also read the last chapter of a book after I read the first one!
Such a charming image of January, in the western hemisphere - almost makes me sad to see it go - ALMOST! It's been VERY cold, here in Toronto, this first month of the year, and I miss the sun drenched winter days of Crete, but I had the pleasure of actually giving my adorable mom a long, tight hug on her birthday, last week, and that made the month so much warmer and comforting!
Farewell, January, hello February; hope you'll be a sweet visitor!
I'm so happy you were there for your mother's birthday, Poppy! I know it has been wonderful being with your big family and old friends but I wondered if you'd be missing Crete.
I too hope February will be a sweet visitor! Love you!
I get you, Dewena...January is such a transitional month; new beginnings, yet all the hauntings of the past beating us down, you know- all those expectations we planned for "after" the New Year. And of course, our lives are sort of caught in this stalemate and it takes a toll collectively and personally.
So I say hello to February as it is now my birthday!! Yes! I sat down right around before midnight so I guess I'm now a year older! Cheers! I also love February for challenging myself for the month, like no sugar all month, no wine...we do this because it's the shortest month of the year!!! And I really love Valentines Day. I loved it when my kids were little and we made handmade valentines out of all the construction paper and lace and stickers. And now I have seven grandkids so I put little hearts made of construction paper in my windows and send the "real" mail, a handmade card with a wee piece of candy. Something has to keep us young!!
I pray all is well with you. Again, I'm catching up. Let me know how you are doing, dear friend.
Jane, I hope you find my birthday greeting to you on your blog but will repeat here that I hope your whole birthday month is fabulous! Because you will celebrate the whole month, won't you? With an extra reward for going sugarless this month? I went dessert free for 7 weeks or so in late summer, can't say that I enjoyed it and gave myself a non-food mini reward every week I stuck to it. I think 6 months was my longest to go dessert free and all it took was one serving of amaretto trifle, if I remember correctly, to put a stop to that. Oh, well.
On to the next month! Spring is getting closer!
ReplyDeleteI do love February, Kim. Not ready yet for Spring but I do always enjoy it when it comes.
Deleteoh my! yes! just lovin' livin' this Life! XOXO
ReplyDeleteKeep on with it, Tam!
