Missing Penelope

Please excuse this family post. Today would have been our Penelope's 16th birthday. For 15 years she was part of our July 4th celebrations, part of everything actually.

Truthfully, the house revolved around Penelope. She was the queen bee, the alpha dog. There were no rules for Penelope, or only rules to keep her safe. She wasn't spoiled, mind you, only very well loved.

And she gave back so much love. We miss you, Penelope.

Queen of our hearts.

Mama & Daddy would love to have had just one more birthday with you.

  2. Oh Dewena what a lovely tribute; I understand; our first baby was Rocky a rambunctious, quite talkative and smart beagle! When he died in 2006 we could not replace him, we could not run out and get another dog. We do not judge what others do, we just couldn't; partly we were exhausted, his last 3 years he was diabetic and blind he needed two insulin shots a day every twelve hours. It turned out at that time we started the very early process to adopt so we held off getting a dog. Teddy came along two years ago and well he's the baby of the family now! LOL Our furry babies are family,we fall in love, and we feel their love! They put their heads on our laps after a tough day and our hearts just sighs....they smile and talk to us and we know exactly why and what they are saying!!!!! Love this post, Penelope is beautiful, I do see in those eyes that you belonged to her! XOXO

  3. Penelope was certainly lucky to have a family like yours. Our pets provide that unconditional love that is harder to find in humans. When they are gone they leave an empty spot in our hearts. We still talk about our terrier cocker mix, Athena. Having a dog to come home to is such a joy. We were dog less for a few years and then there was Sadie. She has added so much to our lives.

  4. Those little pets give so much pleasure and unconditional love. We love our granddog, Molly. Penelope was lucky to have loving owners. I'm sorry for your loss; I know there will always be a place in your memory and heart for your dear little Penelope.

  5. She looks like a really sweet dog, Dewena. I have always been one to assert that "dogs are dogs, not humans", but I must say that little Obie has become part of our family.

  9. Dewena - I know how much you loved your dear Penelope. I know how it feels to wish they were still here. She was so pretty. I think you need another dachshund in your life...but you know that! How lucky Penelope was to have been loved so much by you and your husband. Sending love your way......

  10. Hi Dewena,

Penelope was a pretty girl; she has such a look of peace and content in her eyes in the first photo. She was well taken care of and loved by her sweet family and she loved you back. She had a happy life. Isn't it lovely that you can remember her like that?

    Sending hugs,

    Poppy

  12. Oh Dewena, I can tell by looking at her that she was a special being. That is such a sweet face. I'm sorry for your loss. That is a lot of years for a dog to live, so I know she was well cared for, but I also know the pain over the loss of a best friend for so many years. laurie

  13. My heart goes out to you every time I see her picture. We know that we will one day lose our companion of 12 years. There is no such thing as spoiling a pet that we dearly love. We pray for and support all animal lovers.

There is no doubt in my mind that all dogs go to Heaven and we will see them again.
