For My Vegetarian Friends At Thanksgiving

This post is lovingly dedicated to all my vegetarian friends but especially to Claudia and Don at Mockingbird Hill Cottage [here].

Thanksgiving Dinner

by Edna St. Vincent Millay

"I will cook for my love a banquet of beets and cabbages,

Leeks, potatoes, turnips, all such fruits…

For my clever love,
who has returned from further than the far east;

We will laugh like spring
above the steaming, stolid winter roots."

A delicious Thanksgiving Day dinner to all of you!
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful words of Edna St. Vincent Millay above.
A huge thank you to my cameraman, R.H., who went to the barn in 28 degree weather
this morning for props, spent hours arranging all my vegetables for me
and then photographing them.

[No vegetables were harmed during the filming of this post,
but they will be eaten afterwards!]

  14. Works of art! When did vegetable ever look so appetizing and artistic at once? R.H.'s hidden talent for styling has been discovered - just like new actors, scene stealing or understudies in the theatre, getting their lucky break when the leading lady unluckily comes down with a flu or loses her voice! Colourful, crispy, and healthy, vegetables certainly have the wow factor to be served solo for any occasion, including Thanksgiving!

    Wonderful!

  17. R.H. is becoming quite the stylist, Dewena. I really like the rustic appeal and beautiful colors in these photographs, and Edna St. Vincent Millay's words fit perfectly with them. Happy Thanksgiving to you and R.H.!

  18. I could go vegetarian easily for Thanksgiving, especially if I had a LOT of sweet potato dishes! Lovely post, my dear!

  19. Dewena,
So many delicious vegetables on here. Nel used to be a Vegetarian many years ago, and one day she had ribs, and it was all over. How nice of your cameraman to go in the barn in such cold weather and take these pictures. My dad used to have a garden, and he would come in with the most amazing vegetables and fruits.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you, dear.

  20. Hi Dewena,
Sometimes I wish I lived in America...sigh. Your Thanksgiving is so much more spectacular then the Canadian one and doesn't exist at all in England. Love your veggie options. We are not vegetarians here, but do keep meat to small portions because I feel it's not entirely healthy for us to eat large quantities, but that turkey!!! I love it!!! Especially at holiday times. Hope you have an amazing Thanksgiving and take photos. :)
